Purpose and Stability of Wet Rice Cultivation

As Singapore is a stable country, instead of buying rice, which is Singapore's staple food, we will grow ours. The purpose is because, Singapore state itself as independent, and so it is time for us to make a paddy field, which is the wet rice cultivation independently. In other words, no more importing of rice. Fortunately for Singapore, there is a project made there called the NEW water, which helps to recycle waste water into clean water. We can use the recycled water for the rice plants, as they requires a lot of water in order to survive and grow. The land may be near the Project centre too or other places that receives sunlight and sufficient amount of water. Thus this shows that rice is important to Singaporeans as they consume most of it. Singapore has experienced strong economic growth over the past few decades, averaging around 7.5 percent from 1970 to 2006. Similarly, Singapore’s per capita GDP has also increased from USD$914 in 1970 to USD$4,853 in 1980 and reached USD$12,234 in 1990 with further increase to USD$23,079 in 2000 and approached a record high at USD$30,159 in 2006 (United Nations, 2008). The economic growth is mostly attributed to economic contribution from manufacturing and services industries. Looking at the opportunity cost, it is reasonable for the small island country with scarcity of land to use about one per cent of Singapore’s land area for agricultural purposes. The most recommended area would be Pulau Ubin as it is a small island without any industrial and commercial buildings. The weather conditions there are also suitable and therefore, it is an idea place for agricultural purposes.

choosing a location to site farming activities

When we choose a farming location we must be able to manage it and see if there is enough space to farm we also need to spend money on the equipment and the people we need to hire to farm the place. The location also have to have favorable weather condition
