Purpose and Stability of Wet Rice Cultivation

As Singapore is a stable country, instead of buying rice, which is Singapore's staple food, we will grow ours. The purpose is because, Singapore state itself as independent, and so it is time for us to make a paddy field, which is the wet rice cultivation independently. In other words, no more importing of rice. Fortunately for Singapore, there is a project made there called the NEW water, which helps to recycle waste water into clean water. We can use the recycled water for the rice plants, as they requires a lot of water in order to survive and grow. The land may be near the Project centre too or other places that receives sunlight and sufficient amount of water. Thus this shows that rice is important to Singaporeans as they consume most of it. Singapore has experienced strong economic growth over the past few decades, averaging around 7.5 percent from 1970 to 2006. Similarly, Singapore’s per capita GDP has also increased from USD$914 in 1970 to USD$4,853 in 1980 and reached USD$12,234 in 1990 with further increase to USD$23,079 in 2000 and approached a record high at USD$30,159 in 2006 (United Nations, 2008). The economic growth is mostly attributed to economic contribution from manufacturing and services industries. Looking at the opportunity cost, it is reasonable for the small island country with scarcity of land to use about one per cent of Singapore’s land area for agricultural purposes. The most recommended area would be Pulau Ubin as it is a small island without any industrial and commercial buildings. The weather conditions there are also suitable and therefore, it is an idea place for agricultural purposes.

Reclaimed Land

Land Reclaimation, usually known as reclaimation, is the process to create new land  from sea or riverbeds. The land reclaimed is known as reclaimation ground or landfill. - wiki

We need land in order to produce food for the people in Singapore, due to scarce land,Singapore used the method of Reclaiming land to "Create'' more space for more things. One of which is farming.

Places in Singapore that is on reclaimed land are:

Pulau Tekong
East Coast Park
Jurong

choosing a location to site farming activities

When we choose a farming location we must be able to manage it and see if there is enough space to farm we also need to spend money on the equipment and the people we need to hire to farm the place. The location also have to have favorable weather condition

location for farming map .

our location for farming

places near the seas or even places off singapore like pulau ubin etc .as singapore is always building and developing houses , companys etc . its doesnt have much land to spare for doing wet rice cultivaion so we've decied to go to places that has water supply and enough sunlight for the growing of crops .
our method the wet rice cultivation , needing water and sunlight and manpower is enought to work well . using places near the seas , or off singapore can get us enough water supply . and is hot and wet reigion also .
water supply , once we have flooded land , it doesnt requires water . as there will be enough water when its flooded or during heavy rain . process our product we will also build a factory that is nearer to our farming location so that we can process the rice easily , fertilisers , we planned to get direct supply from other suppliers so that there would not be a problem .
wet rice cultivation requires , physical labour , we would need help from people to plant the crops ,and fertilise it and also harvest it when it grows.

what is the method of agriculture that we've chosen ?

we've chosen wet rice cultivation . wet rice cultivation requires a land flooded with water , and is able to have sunlight and heavy rain also . wet rice cultivation is able to reduce the water supply we used , as the field is already flooded with water . singapore doesnt have any spare land that can be flooded with water , so we decided that if we were to create a wet rice cultivation , we would use places near the sea or even reservoirs . as places all over there has enough supply of water . singapore focuses more on building houses and company etc etc . the thought of having to create a wet rice cultivation is going to need money , and water . the lands in singapore are mostly dry , and not covered with water .

What is the food product we've chose ?

RICE .
our group chose rice , is basically cause singapore's staple food is rice . rice is also rich in carbohydrates . singapore relies on other country to import rice and it doesnt have its own rice cultivation farm . when doing wet rice cultivation it needs flooded fields in the lowlands of hot and wet region . certain areas in singapore has lowlands of hot and wet region . singapore climate is normally humid , but it do rains heavily at times . wet rice cultivation needs sunlight and heavy rainfall during the growing season . if singaporeans has their own wet rice cultivation farm , it can reduce the amount money we spent importing rice from other country .
